Each year, around the beginning of May, the Sukura Trees (or better known as Cherry Blossoms) bloom in High Park in Toronto. This event draws people from all over the world to witness this beautiful beginning of spring.
These trees were the gift of Japanese ambassador to Canada, Toru-Hagiwara, who presented 2000 trees on behalf of the citizens of Tokyo, Japan as a gift to the citizens of Toronto in 1959 for supporting Japanese-Canadian refugees after the Second World War.
